10 Bible Verses to Combat Worrying
I have a habit to over complicate things and I know I’m not the only one. In this post we’re going to keep it simple; 10 Bible verses to combat worrying. Please don’t overthink these. Let the words wash over you and sink into your heart. The gospel is a book of relationships. It is the best love story ever written, from God himself to us, and He desires better for us that to be worried. Please take these to heart and apply them in your life. Don't let yourself think that they alone apply to other people.
When you trust him to lead you, he does. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6 Anxiety doesn’t come from thinking about the future, it comes from wanting to control it. God is in control of our lives, whether we like it or not. When you surrender to him, it allows him to come in and take over and makes those changes that we can’t make ourselves. Philippians 4:4-6 “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
He has a plan for your life. "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plan to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11 This verse is well known (almost basic) but that doesn’t make it any less true. My favorite Bible story of God’s provision/plan is the story of Joseph in the book of Genesis. His brothers sold him into slavery in Egypt but through obedience, trusting in the Lord and God’s provision, he went from a slave to second in command in all of Egypt. “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” Genesis 50:20 God really does have a plan in the dimmest of circumstances.
Trials produce perseverance "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance." James 1:2-3 and "Not only so, we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope." Romans 5:3-4 Not always the most comforting thing to hear but more often than not, you come out of those struggles and times of anxiety, a stronger person.
God will be with you “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
Worrying is more harmful than helpful. “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” Matthew 6:27
God offers us peace, unlike worldly peace. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:7
We are called to live by peace. “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.” Colossians 3:15
I eally encourage you to journal what is going on in your life, why you are worried/ anxious and how God is working in your life. I personally have found the more I acknowledge God’s presence in my life, the more I can recognize how much He is really working in my life. I am also more frequently able to trust him when a similar situation comes up in the future. I can look back and see how he has delivered me through it. I hope you all found this article helpful. We have to remember that the Bible is a book of relationships, from God to us. He loves us so much and desires better for us than to be worried about things. He has a plan and is in control. I recently posted a video on my YouTube channel about dealing with change. These two ideas are similar. Check it out here- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WapZAg2fifs&t=17s
